Robert F. Hammel

Mr. Hammel, a seasoned executive with 37 years of experience in the transportation industry, is currently in partnership with his three sons Rob, Michael, and Brian.

In 1979, Bob Hammel was a founding partner of Pitt-Ohio Express, along with his two brothers. His hands-on approach played a major role in turning a start-up company into a major regional player in the LTL market with revenues climbing to 210 million dollars by 2003.

Mr. Hammel was a Vice President at large with the American Trucking Association (ATA), serving on the Nominating Committee among others. Additionally, Bob has been involved with various professional associations.

In 1998, Bob was named the Logistics Person of the Year by the Smith School of Business at the University of Maryland, his Alma Mater.

Mr. Hammel’s companies have won numerous national awards for safety, service, and innovation. He is most proud to be working with his sons as they carry on the family transportation legacy of four generations working in the industry dating back to 1919.

Ian Tsai
Executive Vice President

Ian comes to KDL with over 19 years of industry experience in domestic transportation, regional and local distribution, and international commerce. He was most recently Director of Operations for three of CRST Specialized Transportation’s product lines, all of which experienced double digit growth under his leadership. Prior to CRST, Ian held similar leadership and management roles specializing in final mile distribution, private fleet management, and transportation brokerage with Exel and Penske Logistics. Ian started his career working for The Lincoln Electric Company where he was responsible for international distribution and import / export of their global trade.

In 2006, Ian received his certification as a Blackbelt in Six Sigma through Penske Logistics’ Business Quality Council.

Born in Taiwan and raised in Cleveland, Ohio, Ian graduated from John Carroll University in 1998 with a BSBA in Logistics and from Case Western Reserve University’s Weatherhead School of Management in 2003 with a MBA with concentrations in finance and international trade.

Ian enjoys sports, investing, and traveling back to Taiwan where he still speaks Mandarin Chinese. Ian, his wife, and kids reside in Pittsburgh, PA.
