Robert F. Hammel
Chairman and Chief Operating Officer

After graduating from the University of Maryland in 1978 with a degree in Business/Transportation, Bob began his career in the transportation/logistics industry, working for his father's company, Hammel's Express, Inc. in Pittsburgh.

In 1979 Bob, along with his two brothers, founded Pitt Ohio Express, a regional LTL (Less than truckload) company operating in the Mid-Atlantic and Ohio regions. Over the next 24 years he worked in developing this start-up into one of the Top 100 carriers in the country as ranked by Transport Topics. By 2003 Pitt Ohio Express had sales in excess of $200 million and had won many national awards for service and safety.

In early 2004, Bob became Chairman and Chief Operating Officer of KDL, a firm co-founded in 1999 as a wholly owned subsidiary of Pitt Ohio Express. In 2003 KDL was spun off and today is a stand-alone organization.

Bob served on the Board of Directors of the American Trucking Association from 1996-2003. He also is a member of the Pennsylvania Motor Truck Association, the Maryland Motor Truck Association, and the Family Enterprise Center at The University of Pittsburgh's Katz Business School.

 
Richard Coyner
Executive Vice President

Rich joined KDL in 2003 as Vice President and General Manager of Operations. Prior to joining KDL, Rich had been the Corporate Transportation Manager for WESCO Distribution where he had responsibility for the company's transportation budget that included its three U.S. distribution centers, 290 branches and a dedicated fleet in excess of 750 units.

A 1983 graduate of Robert Morris University, Rich began his Logistics career with PPG Industries and from 1983 to 1999, Rich held a variety of logistics positions with three Fortune 500 companies: PPG Industries, H.J. Heinz and Fisher Scientific.

Rich is a member the National Industrial Traffic League (NITL), Guild of American Transportation Specialists (Goats) and the Traffic and Transportation Association of Pittsburgh (T&TA).

 
Jerry McConnell
Vice President of Logistics

Jerry joined KDL in 2004 as Director of Domestic & International Logistics. Jerry is the fourth generation in his family to serve within the transportation industry. Jerry has held various Director and Executive Management roles with such firms as Yellow Transportation as an Operations Manager, Senior Account Executive and Terminal Manager. Jerry also worked for Pitt Ohio Express as an Operations Specialist and Terminal Manager. Jerry performed on the shipper side with organizations such as Black Box Network Services as a Transportation Manager and as a Director for an Over the Road Specialized Operation with Pittsburgh Logistic Systems. Jerry brings over 17 years of transportation experience in multiple modes in operations and sales excellence.
 
Jerry is a graduate of Clarion University with a Bachelors of Science Degree in Accounting. Jerry also has pursued his Master's degree from the University of Phoenix in Business Technology.
 
Jerry is a member of National Shippers Strategic Transportation Council (NASSTRAC), National Industrial Traffic League (NITL), Secretary of the Transportation & Traffic Association (T&TA) -Pittsburgh Chapter and Vice President of the Council of Supply Chain Management Professional (CSCMP) - Pittsburgh Chapter.
